Evidence-based, Point-of-care Resources Accessible from the Health Sciences Libraries

This session will be an introduction to the Health Sciences Libraries’ online collections of evidence-based, point-of-care resources available to support clinical teaching and learning, and patient care.  Jim will be demonstrating selected resources and will highlight examples of how these tools have been used and how you can integrate them into an online learning platform.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify relevant sources to search for evidence-based information to support clinical teaching and care.
  2. Understand how these resources enhance clinical teaching of students and residents.
  3. Appreciate how these tools can be integrated into existing online learning environments.

Presenter

Jim Beattie, MLIS, AHIP

Jim Beattie is an associate librarian and the Head of Liaison, Education and Interdisciplinary Services for the Bio-Medical Library, one of the Health Sciences Libraries, at the University of Minnesota.

Jim earned his MLIS at University of Texas at Austin, and has experience working as a medical school and hospital librarian.  In his roles as a librarian liaison for the Medical School and department head, Jim works directly with the Medical School's MED2010 initiative, helps to integrate the library’s online collections into clinical teaching, and is a member of the AHC Associate Deans for Education Council.
