Do all students learn the same way? How can two students leave a classroom with one very excited about the valuable class session, while the other thought it was a waste of time? How do we improve the learning experiences of all students and achieve Classroom Excellence?
While many universities have general teacher training based on Centers for Teaching and Learning, few have developed programs within specific disciplines where content experts provide a program of pedagogic support. The PACE Program was developed by Steve Huchendorf at the Carlson School of Management as a teacher-training program for improving success in the classroom. The program is based on two tiers – general teacher training and specific teacher training. A portion of the PACE program includes the use of ALT-CATs, IF-AT RAPs and the Learning Cycle Roadmap to improve student learning experiences in the classroom.

Steven C. Huchendorf, PhD
Dr. Huchendorf is Founder and Director of the PACE* Program (*Program for the Advancement of Classroom Excellence), a teacher training initiative aimed at achieving excellence in the classroom. He has earned the Leadership Black Belt in Six Sigma Leadership from the Juran Center for Leadership in Quality. Recipient of multiple teaching awards at the Carlson School of Management including Outstanding Carlson Faculty of the Year 2007, Outstanding Honors Faculty of the Year 2006, and the Carlson School Excellence in Teaching Award 2003. Twice named Outstanding Teacher of the Year for the Department of Economics at Illinois State University. Private sector experience includes seven years with CASE Corporation, an agricultural and construction equipment manufacturer. Research and planning, planning & operations, and supply chain reengineering project management were part of the career path.
