Institute Overview

May 20-21, 2008

The institute will feature presentations by education leaders from the University of Minnesota Academic Health Center schools and colleges, as well as a national keynote speaker. The two-day program will provide opportunities for skill-building in small groups and sharing of ideas among faculty who teach in the health professions.

Four series of educational sessions, or 'tracks,' will be offered at the Best Practices Institute:

  • Technology Enhanced Teaching
  • Evaluation & Assessment
  • Teaching and Learning
  • Interprofessional Education.

Overall Best Practice Institute Learning Objectives:

By attending this institute participants will attend sessions that will have threads of information containing the application and evaluation of critical thinking, overall benefits of incorporating interprofessional education into curricula and experiences and defining some generational differences that have a direct impact on education models and delivery systems.

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  1. Define the value of teaching students elements of critical thinking and some tools to use for assessment of.
  2. Describe the generational differences and examples of how to close the gap on the mental model
  3. Define and describe the importance of interprofessional education and teamwork and how to incorporate into current education and practice models.
